Which Live Selling Platform Fits You for Social Selling?

Live shopping platform

The growth of social selling is already underway. Figuring out which live selling platform is for you isn’t as straight forward as you would think. Do you go with the big guys (Facebook / Instagram / Tiktok) or do you go with the truly niche players (Poshmark / Whatnot). While you might think that the big guys are where it’s at, I’m here to tell you that the real play is with the niche players.

Live Selling Platform: Whatnot Review

By far my favorite. This live selling platform gained popularity within the trading cards community, then it just exploded. The company received multiple rounds of funding, which made their app very solid while growing into many other niche communities in clothing, sports, bags, etc.  From the selling standpoint, Whatnot has some of the lowest fees to sellers. As of this writing, Whatnot charges sellers 8% plus a 2.9% transaction fee (so you’re right under 11%).

From the customer side, Whatnot is VERY addicting. The user interface of the app has improved tremendously. Scrolling between rooms, searching from rooms, following, commenting, etc. Whatnot has made the app very engaging for the users making users constantly come back. Similar to other live selling apps, sellers a constantly adding giveaways. These giveaways is a way to not only keep a person in your room watching your auctions, but it keeps them coming back to your shows too. The more viewers a room has, the greater the chance a item can be bid up making you a ton more money.

From a audience perspective, Whatnot skews to the male side but it’s not as high as it use to be. When Whatnot was about sportscards, you were at over 90%+ male. With the introduction and growth of highly sought after female categories, the latest reports have the male audience at 65% overall.

Poshmark Live Shopping Platform Review

Poshmark – where stay-at-home moms reign supreme and daytime TV commercials are sandwiched between episodes of Peppa Pig!

Picture this: a truly social shopping environment where women aren’t just buying clothes – they’re literally building real life friendships as well! It’s like a digital coffee club where “OMG, cute top!” turns into genuine friendships faster than you can say “What’s your Instagram handle?”

Now, let’s talk about Poshmark’s commission fees – they take a whopping 20% cut, representing the highest rate among current live shopping platforms. However, this fee structure is offset by the platform’s demonstrated ability to command higher average selling prices compared to competitors like Whatnot, particularly in certain merchandise categories.

Here’s the hard truth: if your products are aimed at women, you practically need to be on Poshmark like you need your morning coffee. The app is very female-friendly, it’s like they actually asked women what they wanted (shocking, right?). While Whatnot is over there looking like it was designed by your tech-bro cousin, Poshmark gets it. Sure, you could try both platforms – but if your target audience is women, you have spend time here. 🛍️👗👜
